Dog car seats, transport boxes, seat belts, what is allowed?
As far as the dog car seat is concerned, the law in Germany stipulates that dogs must be secured in the car during transportation. They are equated with a load. You should always assume that if you don’t follow the rule, you could face a hefty fine for having an unsecured dog in the car. Therefore, strap your dog into the back seat or boot of the car.
Hund im Auto Anschnallen
Dog car seats should be fitted with a special safety harness which is connected to a secure chest harness. The HappyDog HappyWalk dog car seats are equipped with appropriate safety belts. In addition to the two existing belts, you also have the option of using the car seat belt to secure the dog car seat to the rear seat bench.
We can also produce a dog car seat with Isofix on request. This gives you at least 3 options for properly fastening your fur buddy (female or male dog) to the rear seat of the car. As already mentioned, with two internal straps and a strap that you put around the backrest. You can also use the standard car seatbelt and/or a seatbelt with an Isofix adapter or a standard seatbelt adapter. As far as the variety of dog car seats is concerned, there are no limits to your imagination.
Hund im Auto via Transportbox
Transport box, dog, car is that okay? Of course, you also have the option of transporting your dog in the boot with the help of a transport box. It’s best if you have a station wagon or a van, because the transport box not only has the most space here, but can also be secured in the best possible way. Only the familiarization phase should not be underestimated if it has not already taken place. Because it is clear that physical contact is not guaranteed here, unlike with a dog car seat. Some owners find it hard to bring themselves to do this.
However, it is not a must to solve it this way. Statistically speaking, every fifth car accident in Germany is a rear-end collision. Means unbraked into the boot. Of course, the occupants in the rear of the car are secured accordingly, which is how our cars are designed, but the trunk serves as a crumple zone. It is therefore up to you what you prefer regarding the transportation of your four-legged friends. Either way, secure your furry friend, otherwise you could face a hefty fine with your dog in the car.
Hund im Auto via Netze und Gitter
If you are driving a van or a station wagon, we recommend the loading area where your fur buddy should have enough space to lie down and sit. So that a certain level of safety is also guaranteed here, of course, because according to § 22 StVO & § 23 StVO, pets and dogs are considered cargo and must be secured accordingly so that they do not become a danger to the lives of all occupants. Either separating nets or animal fences are advisable for this.
This separates your Fellbuddy from the rest of the passenger compartment and has the advantage that this system is easy and safe to install in the rear of the vehicle. The big advantage here is of course the freedom of movement, but at what cost should you get into an accident and your fur-buddy is in the boot without any form of transport box?!
FAZIT:
Personally, I would always prefer a car seat for the size of our poodle dog ‘Moya’. The fact that I can back them up several times gives me the necessary peace of mind to prefer this route. Of course it also has to do with the fact that the dogs are used to being carried in a transport box, I still have to teach them.
These are natural obstacles that need to be overcome first. On the rear seat bench, at least the visible contact remains & there is also enough space here, provided the space is not fully utilized. Our dog car seats are not only characterized by their versatile design, they are also functional and offer the comfort of a dog travel bed.
